contributing with articles and comments
To arch-peace members,
Back from the holiday break and our team is full of energy to begin another year of reaching out, informing, critically learning and discussing architecture, public space, urbanism and all related fields.
As usual, our next newsletter is coming soon and we would like to invite you all to become active members by sharing your local urban news with all of us.
Contributions can be in the form of a visual diary. For example, a building that you like or dislike. Remember to include a few sentences to tell us what makes it interesting. It can also be a review or an article on a related topic—you choose. The best way to send your material to us is by writing a ‘note’ (Facebook notes) on you own wall and sending us the link or tagging us, we will contact you then. One important requirement is that ALL written and/or photographic material must be yours—not copied from anywhere else, unless it is a “quote” and a reference is included.
You comments on our news and editorial are most important. Comments assist to generate dialogue, spark curiosity and we can all learn about what makes your city/town an amazing place.
So, welcome to another arch-peace year and looking forward to your contributions!!!

The earthquake in Haiti
This year started with a terrible tragedy. The earthquake in Haiti devastated the capital city, killing thousands and destroying much of the infrastructure of this desperately poor country.
Haitians are urgently appealing to the world for help, not only to overcome the immediate emergency, but for all the time required to reconstruct the country.
On Saturday 20th, on behalf of Architecture for Humanity, Urban Village Melbourne who partnered with Architects for Peace, we presented: GLOBAL PECHAKUCHA DAY FOR HAITI in Melbourne. There will be much to be done in the days and years ahead.

Dear friends and colleagues,
We had another month of great contributions from you, members and friends. Thanks to all those who have commented, added photographs, discussed a point of view, presented at words@bld50 and posted links or articles. We have received news and contributions from and about: Rwanda, Prishtina, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Palestine, Chile, Australia, the US, Tunisia, Bangladesh among other cities and places from around the world. It is contributions such as these—of work that matters to the wider society—that makes arch-peace a great organisation and encourage us (volunteers) to continue.
Thanks also to our Iranian colleagues who responded to our note of support, we hope with you for brighter days.
Note that all our words’ presentations are now available on video here.
Anything that we do here in Melbourne can be replicated anywhere else. If you are interested in doing similar work in your city or offered to coordinate work in your city/country, please follow these steps: http://archpeace-notes.blogspot.com/2008/11/region-country-representatives.html
We have had some problems with our email service and some emails and some responses are being delayed. Please be patient.
Best regards,
Beatriz C. Maturana (President) and the Architects for Peace team.

you can assist us promoting...
Be an active member: you can help to promote our next talk (words at bldg50), by pinning a poster in your university or workplace. The poster can be downloaded from: here.
Our webpages have undergone major upgrading--we hope you like it. The look has been maintained but it should now work a bit more efficiently. We have also added an event calendar which will be updated by our different coordinators in the next few weeks. Come and check it out soon at arch-peace calendar
Looking forward to see your projects at studio+space
We are looking for Melbourne based members to assist with pro bono (project coordination/admin), and with memberships--please let us know if you are interested. We would also like to encourage our non-Australian members to create their own country or city arch-peace blogger page. The page can be written in your own language, and when you are ready we will link to it!

Also, you might have noticed that our news/forum has bee very slow for the last 4 months. This is because we have change to another system (still butterpaper-arch-peace) that will provide some really cool features. It has been a laborious and difficult move and we are still working on it. However, the new forum is up and running and we need your assistance to get it back in shape by posting your news/events, or simply add a comment (see below).
